Useful messages

  • An answer that looked wrong: send the share link the tool gives (it holds the place, the night and your settings) and what you saw in the sky. We compare it with the SWPC and NWS data of that night.
  • A town you would like on the site, with its state or country.
  • Embedding the forecast on a club, observatory or tourism site: the embed page has the code.

What we cannot do

We send no alerts and keep no list of addresses to notify. We cannot say whether a photo shows aurora or airglow, and we do not answer for the feeds themselves: questions on the Kp forecast go to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, on cloud forecasts to the National Weather Service. The method page explains what the tool does with them.

Forecast, not a promise: the Kp forecast is issued for three-hour blocks and storms arrive early, late or not at all; clouds move faster than any forecast. The answer is a rule applied to public data, explained on the method page, and it is for guidance only: it does not replace the official SWPC alerts or your own look at the sky.
