Privacy policy

This policy covers https://northernlightshere.com. The publisher is established in France: the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies to everything the site does, for every visitor, and residents of US states with a consumer privacy law keep at least the rights listed here.

No cookie is set by this site, and the forecast stores nothing on your device: no local storage, no account, no alert list.

1. Who is responsible

Radif Partners
49 rue du Ressort
63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France
contact@northernlightshere.com

2. Your location

You can pick a town from the list, type a ZIP code or coordinates, or press "Use my location", which asks your browser for your position. In every case the position is used inside the page you are viewing. It is never sent to us. To compute the answer, your browser itself sends the coordinates, rounded to four decimals or less, to the cloud forecast service: the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov, a US government service) for places in the United States, or the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no) elsewhere or if the first does not answer. A ZIP code is converted to coordinates with a file from this site, downloaded by your browser, without sending the ZIP code anywhere.

3. What is processed by us

Hosting logs

Like every web host, GitHub records the IP address, time, page requested and browser type of each request to keep the service secure. Legal basis: legitimate interest. Retention follows GitHub's own policy.

Anonymous stability monitoring, without cookies

To find broken pages and scripts, the site loads Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, Dublin) in its cookie-free mode: errors, loading times and clicks that lead nowhere are measured per page view, without cookies and without linking visits; page content and everything typed are masked. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a working site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object by blocking clarity.ms or writing to us.

E-mails

If you write to us, we keep your address and message to answer, and delete them three years after the last exchange.

4. No sale, no profiles

We do not sell or share personal information and build no profiles. There is no account, no alert list and no advertising on the site.

5. Transfers

The host, GitHub, Inc., is in the United States; request data may be processed there under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The feeds your browser calls are run by NOAA and the National Weather Service in the United States and by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in Norway.

6. Your rights

You may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, or object, by writing to contact@northernlightshere.com; we answer within one month. You may also complain to the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL) (https://www.cnil.fr).

7. Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and collects nothing from them.

Forecast, not a promise: the Kp forecast is issued for three-hour blocks and storms arrive early, late or not at all; clouds move faster than any forecast. The answer is a rule applied to public data, explained on the method page, and it is for guidance only: it does not replace the official SWPC alerts or your own look at the sky.
